“The Great Fire of London session was so much fun, we built replica houses and set fire to them to show the students how a spark can travel, the impact of a fire hook and the devastation that fire can bring. It’s a learning experience that the children still talk about now.”
OUTDOOR LEARNING ACTIVITIES IN KS1 AND KS2

Tailored forest school activities in Manchester
We Are Adventurers have a structured programme of outdoor learning activities for KS1 and KS2 groups developed through thousands of hours of delivery in schools across Greater Manchester.
Outdoor learning activities in KS1 encourage children to explore the natural woodland and understand seasonal changes. They are often imagination-led, helping children to marvel at the possibilities of their surroundings, but the activities also help with counting, phonics and letter recognition, and improve communication skills, teach compassion and increase confidence through age appropriate risk taking.
KS2 outdoor learning activities align the classroom curriculum with nature. For example we can work on orienteering, using a compass and a map for geography; or we could be learning about water filtration or fire for science. To nurture their creativity, we might be making art using natural materials, or designing and building a bug hotel.

Why Choose We Are Adventurers?
Our adventures are led by passionate outdoor instructors, who naturally pass on their enthusiasm to children as they navigate their outdoor learning journey. With more than 10 years’ experience working alongside schools, we have a huge catalogue of outdoor learning activities in our adventure programme which support KS1 and KS2.
The forest school environment shines a light for those pupils who struggle within traditional school settings, which is why our intervention work is so impactful. The woodland is a wonderful place to focus on communication skills, nurturing and confidence. We work closely with teachers and parents to share insight, strategy and success.
What do we do?
We believe that all children should have the opportunity to learn outdoors and our adventure led forest school programme is designed to engage children in learning through adventure. Please see our FAQs for more information.

What are the benefits of a one day event versus a programme of learning?
KS1 and KS2 sessions can be booked as a one off, but are better when booked in a minimum of half term blocks. We offer discounted rates for booking multiple blocks. In order to benefit from forest school, it’s better if time is allowed to build a relationship between the instructor and the child and the child and the woodland.
-
Do our staff attend too?
It depends. For KS1 and KS2 we operate at a ratio of 1:15 for a one off session or 1:30 for a programme of learning (we ask that the class teacher or a TA attends on the first session while we get to know the children). We will work with you to build a programme of learning, and if more complicated skills are included, we can either work with smaller groups to deliver, or alternatively bring additional leaders.
-
How will I track the changes in the students?
We will always do a verbal handover at the end of each session with any immediate observations that are considered urgent. We then write up a brief summary of the session and note down any children that faced difficulties or made significant progress. At the end of each half term, we will share this with you.
