What to expect
What to expect at School Holiday Club
Every day is different! There will be plenty of hide and seek, capture the flag and the freedom to enjoy running around, climbing and exploring (in fact parents thank us because their child is always ready for bedtime!).
Each day we try or perfect a new skill – from crafting a peg or mallet to using tools to create a woodland band of merry men with swords and bows and arrows. Pirate themed treasure hunts teach map reading and problem solving. Collecting water, learning signaling with light and sound and protecting yourself from the elements are all vital survival skills.
Risk is a big part of adventure play for children, but all the risks have been carefully assessed so that your child can experience a sense of accomplishment, from firelighting to cooking over a campfire and from our woodland assault course (as challenging as their ability allows) to carving their own whistles and Kazoos.
Summary of activities:
Cooking: Marshmallows, damper bread, smores, popcorn
Tools: Bow saw, bill hook, sheaf knife, loppers
Woodcraft: Peg, mallet, kazoo/whistles, bow and arrow
Skills: Firelighting, survival, first aid, map reading
We intend to keep the experience as normal as we can for the children who attend but as you would expect, under the current circumstances there will be some changes. We are operating on a bubble system, where each bubble has 10 children and one instructor who stay together at all times. We are also running on reduced numbers to give everyone plenty of room to play. We’ve also created some additional facilities so that we can increase the frequency of handwashing.
To keep this bubble as small as possible, we must ask that:
- All children are booked on for a week at a time, they will stay in the same bubble with the same instructor all week
- You send them with a packed lunch and a water bottle.
- Each bubble will have a staggered start and finish time so that lots of parents don’t end up arriving at the same time
- If you use the early or late drop off facility, please maintain a safe distance from others
